3- Ehujarré Gorges
Start point: Sainte-Engrâce church00° 48' 35.5'' W
42° 59' 43.3'' N
Distance: 12 km. Time: 7½ hrs. Altitude change: 900 m
Walk past the 11th-century Romanesque church and the Elichalt inn, follow the road down and keep the church to your right, cross the bridge and then turn right, cross the 2nd bridge. Once you get past a farm, the roadway ends. Turn left onto a track. At the crossroads take the path that leads down to the gorges (open the gate and remember to close it behind you). Continue along the path that follows the stream. After 45 minutes you will come across a spring - the water is fit to drink. After a further two hours you will arrive at the Molerse grotto (up to 20 people can stand inside it). About 20 minutes later you will emerge from the gorge to the Errayzé plateau. There is a rain gauge just after the shepherd's hut (cayolar). The trail runs into a paved track that crosses the Utzigagna plains. As you leave the forest, take the path on the left and then follow a trail that drops below the ruins of a shepherd's hut. Walk up the side of Utzigagna where you should get a superb panoramic view of the Ehujarré gorges. Once you get past the Utzipia shepherd's hut, walk into the Utzia woods. Leave the track after 10 minutes, and take a path to the right. Alternatively you can carry on until you get to the village.
